At MultiMediaMakers we love making videos. And we love working with our customers to produce videos that create an impact. Some of our prospects can see that and simply haven’t secured the budget yet, to get started. Compare it with a burning desire to get into the property market, and being in a situation that forces you to rent. With video it’s a bit similar, so don’t panic! Here’s a list of tips and tricks, to get started Making Your Video on an iPhone.

1. Location

A video may look amateurish simply because there’s not enough light. So when you plan to capture content on a smartphone, have a thought about your location. Make sure you choose a large room, with plenty of natural light coming in. If, for that reason, you choose to film outdoors, avoid the middle of the day because the sunlight will be right above you (in Perth) and that will create harsh shadows on people. It’s better to choose mornings or late afternoons.

2. Background

Let’s say you’re filming inside a building. If the room has white or beige walls, avoid white or beige clothes. You could end up having no contrast in the frame. With those kind of walls, go for bright or darker clothes.

3. Tripod

Shaky camerawork leads to amateur video content. Buy a tripod and tripod case holder for your iPhone so you can film steady footage (Even a selfie stick will do the job if you have a steady hand).

4. Multiple Takes

Capture enough footage so you can choose the best takes. When filming people, make sure the camera is slightly above eye level. Positioning your lens under their eye level will…how can we put this diplomatically…lead to an unflattering appearance with too much focus on their chin. Try it out. You’ll see what I mean.

5. Buy Lapel mic

Sound is pivotal! Nothing worse than a voice that sounds muffled, is almost inaudible or has too much reverb. Google “Lapel mic for iPhone” and make the investment!

6. Get iMovie

iMovie is a simple app available on the App Store. Check out this brief tutorial and let the editing fun take over!

Good luck creating your own video content and please keep breathing!
